Newcastle to host Miss England finals as more than 50 contestants compete for crown
ewcastle this summer as the city hosts the Miss England finals for the first time in the famous competition's history.
On July 31 and August 1, The Gainford Group will host the latter stages of the annual contest in one of their venues, following on from the grand finale of Miss Newcastle 2019 , which is being held in The County Hotel on Friday, June 14.
Alisha Cowie the reigning Miss England attended the launch at The Hudson in Newcastle city centre on Monday, with reigning Miss London, Birmingham and Manchester title holders, as well as top fundraisers also in attendance.
Alisha a former Miss Newcastle was the first local girl to win the title and represent England at Miss World.
Using the ethos “Beauty with a Purpose," Alisha has become an ambassador for the Papyrus Young Suicide Prevention Charity and helped raise over £30,000.
She has just returned from the World Travel awards where she was invited by the tourist board as a special guest to have a luxury holiday and cultural experience in Mauritius, something the newly crowned winner will also receive.
The contest to become Miss England consists of many rounds including: Ethical Fashion catwalk with the theme #wearitgreen, Talent contest, Sports challenge, TV Presenters Award, Fundraising and General Knowledge Quiz.
Whoever wins Miss England will then head to Miss World in Thailand and be in with a chance of winning £100,000.
"We have previously staged the contest final in various parts of the country such as London and Birmingham in the past," explained Miss England director Angie Beasley.
"I’m very excited to bring the final to the North East. A big Thank you to Tyne Tees Models & The Gainford Group, I hope we can make the event a huge success.
“Over the years, the contest has raised thousands of pounds across the country with the Beauty with a Purpose Ethos for various causes and we still attract over 20,000 entrants ever year .
"From money raised we have previously funded holiday homes, buses, sensory equipment and wheelchairs, I sincerely hope we can do the same in Newcastle."
The Chronicle Sunshine Fund will be a 50% recipient of funds shared with the Miss World charity Beauty with a Purpose .
*Tickets for the Miss England finals in Newcastle will go on sale on July 1.
The Grand final of Miss England is being staged in Newcastle 31st July & 1st August at the Newbridge Hotel in Newcastle City Centre.
